Cultural and Scenic Diversity

7 days in Myanmar
Yangon – Inle Lake – Bagan – Yangon

Myanmar is well known for its wide variety of culture and geography, and this tour provides the perfect chance to become well-acquainted with this diversity. The difference between Day 1 and Day 2 of your journey could not be more different, as you travel from the city of Yangon, a thriving urban centre of nearly 6 million people, to rural Shan State. This mountainous, forested region is home to a number of fascinating ethnic groups, many of which you will encounter as you take a boat tour of beautiful Inle Lake and its numerous rustic villages on wooden stilts. From the cool heights of Shan State you will descend into the central plains of Myanmar, where you will explore the countless temples of Bagan and learn how history played itself out in the days of the ancient Burmese kings.

Highlights

• Wander the streets of Yangon, lined with stately colonial buildings, golden pagodas and leafy trees

• Spend a day in a boat on Inle Lake, travelling to villages and monasteries that rise out of the water on
   stilts

• Glide through Indein on the western side of Inle Lake, where a network of exotic canals will lead you
to a 13th century monastery and a remarkable collection of weathered stupas

• Observe the lifestyles of Inle Lake’s Intha people, including their unique leg-rowing technique as they
tend floating gardens and catch fish

• See cottage industries such as pottery making, blacksmithing and weaving by ethnic groups such as
the Shan, Taung-yo, Danu, Kayah, Danaw, Bamar and Pa-O

• Explore the famous sites of amazing Bagan, a vast plain of thousands of ancient pagodas and temples

• Get an unforgettable bird’s-eye view of Bagan as you float above the ancient city in hot-air balloon at
   dawn

• Enjoy the spectacle of the sun setting beyond the countless spires of ancient Bagan
